Natural Methods Of Curing Sciatic Pain

By admin On February 20, 2009 Under Sciatic pain

I have been suffering from Sciatic pain for several years now. If you are suffering from sciatic pain you know exactly what I am talking about. Sleepless nights with your foot and calf muscle pounding and simply now way to get comfortable. Driving for long periods of time with the pain running down your leg and again no way to really be comfortable.

I have been on some very strong perstription medication for this to help with the pain but it only seems to mask the pain. I no longer do this because this method of treatment is not a lasting method. If you are doing the same, then again you know exactly what I am talking about.

A few months ago I hurt my back lifting something at work. This really made the sciatic pain worse also.  I don’t know exactly how or when I did it because it really didn’t start hurting till the next day. I described my pain to my supervisor and he did not want me to do any type of work outside. He wanted me to sit in my office and let it heal. This really started me to thinking because I am the type of person that can not sit still, while my work piles up on me and feel good about my job. So I started to do some research on the internet and found some useful was of treating my sciatic pain. I finally was able to talk my supervisor into letting me do some tasks that were not stressful and am happy to report that I am back to my normal job functions.

I found some information about doing some stretches to actually relieve the pain. I plan on doing a video that will help demonstrate how to do this properly and when I do I will post them to this site. Anyway I have had some very good success trying these stretches. Now what was really amazing is, I found it even got rid of the back pain completely. This was great! I have suffered from chronic back pain through the years also and I have to say my back hasn’t felt this good for a long time. The only thing I must stress to you is you may want to consult your physician before doing any type of stretching exercises. Little disclaimer there, lol.

In the interim I will try to describe the stretching exercises for sciatic pain.

  • First lay on you back on the floor or some type of padding with your knees bent slightly
  • Take the effected leg by the knee and pull it toward your chest
  • Now take your knee and push it toward your oposite shoulder
  • Keep in mind now you want to do this gently. You will feel some lite discomfort but don’t over do it and hold it for 10 seconds
  • Repeat this 2 to 3 times

What this does is it stretches the nerve and that is the pain you will feel but don’t worry it is kind of a good pain. If there is such a thing.

Now I hope this will help you out. I can honestly say that this has really helped me out. I only do this when the pain seems to occur. I was doing it more often and it seemed to not be as effective, for me. You may find doing it daily or several times a day will help you more. I believe this depends on the person.

Anyway please come back soon and hopefully I will have the video done for your viewing pleasure. There is another neat little trick I do, that helps me out and I will include this in my video. If you have any comment, they are always welcome.

Like I said in my post, I have been suffering for a long time with sciatic pain and the best thing I have found to help with the pain is doing some very simple stretching exercise that help a lot. I suggest anyone that is having problems just to try it out. You will feel better, I promise.

I’ve been having one sort of back pain or another since I was about 15. I am now 50. Stretching and yoga and similar movements have helped me a lot so I have no argument with any of that, but when I’m really desperate there’s not much I can think of that beats inversion (for me).

I bought an inversion table a year or two ago, and it remains one of my best treatments when I’m really hurting. Don’t know that it will work for everyone though. Maybe talk to your GP about your problem and whether or not inversion could help.

I have an inversion table also. I like it and it is another effective means of treatment. I had the idea a couple of years ago when I was looking for methods of treating this and I believe I heard about a method that was expensive and basically all they do is stretch you out. That when I started looking for an inversion table. I was lucky I found a floor model that I got for around $100. I have to say that was a wise investment.

    Thanks for your comments.

That’s almost exactly my story! The therapy was called DRX9000, a machine that stretches you. I checked around on the net and it was expensive and a lot were saying you just have to keep doing it in spite of the expense. I knew I couldn’t afford it, but it wasn’t long before I saw comments saying an inversion table was essentially the same thing and a lot cheaper so I started looking into that and, well, I paid a little more, but otherwise you know the rest — it’s your story, too.

And continued best of luck with your site (and your back of course).

Good day. My fiance has severe pain, it has been diagnosed at Sciatica. We are searching for natural ways to cure this without drugs or surgery. I will start with the stretch advised above, but the pending video mentioned would be very helpful. Please inform me when it is available.

    Thanks.
