I have been suffering from Sciatic pain for several years now. If you are suffering from sciatic pain you know exactly what I am talking about. Sleepless nights with your foot and calf muscle pounding and simply now way to get comfortable. Driving for long periods of time with the pain running down your leg and again no way to really be comfortable.

I have been on some very strong perstription medication for this to help with the pain but it only seems to mask the pain. I no longer do this because this method of treatment is not a lasting method. If you are doing the same, then again you know exactly what I am talking about.

A few months ago I hurt my back lifting something at work. This really made the sciatic pain worse also. I don’t know exactly how or when I did it because it really didn’t start hurting till the next day. I described my pain to my supervisor and he did not want me to do any type of work outside. He wanted me to sit in my office and let it heal. This really started me to thinking because I am the type of person that can not sit still, while my work piles up on me and feel good about my job. So I started to do some research on the internet and found some useful was of treating my sciatic pain. I finally was able to talk my supervisor into letting me do some tasks that were not stressful and am happy to report that I am back to my normal job functions.

I found some information about doing some stretches to actually relieve the pain. I plan on doing a video that will help demonstrate how to do this properly and when I do I will post them to this site. Anyway I have had some very good success trying these stretches. Now what was really amazing is, I found it even got rid of the back pain completely. This was great! I have suffered from chronic back pain through the years also and I have to say my back hasn’t felt this good for a long time. The only thing I must stress to you is you may want to consult your physician before doing any type of stretching exercises. Little disclaimer there, lol.

In the interim I will try to describe the stretching exercises for sciatic pain.

First lay on you back on the floor or some type of padding with your knees bent slightly

Take the effected leg by the knee and pull it toward your chest

Now take your knee and push it toward your oposite shoulder

Keep in mind now you want to do this gently. You will feel some lite discomfort but don’t over do it and hold it for 10 seconds

Repeat this 2 to 3 times

What this does is it stretches the nerve and that is the pain you will feel but don’t worry it is kind of a good pain. If there is such a thing.

Now I hope this will help you out. I can honestly say that this has really helped me out. I only do this when the pain seems to occur. I was doing it more often and it seemed to not be as effective, for me. You may find doing it daily or several times a day will help you more. I believe this depends on the person.

Anyway please come back soon and hopefully I will have the video done for your viewing pleasure. There is another neat little trick I do, that helps me out and I will include this in my video. If you have any comment, they are always welcome.

Facet joint syndrome, is most commonly compared to a form of arthritis. Facet joints are found in the spine. Like other forms of arthritis it is a breakdown of the fluids or cartilage surrounding the joint thus giving the effect of bone on bone movement which causes pain in the joint. Much like a hinge on a door it requires lubrication to keep the hinge operating with ease of movement and without drag. A combination of cartilage, synovial fluid, and ligaments surround the joint, and keep it moving effortlessly. Nerve tissue also runs into the lubricating fluids.

As we get older the spine tends to have some form of degeneration thus making facet joint syndrome more common. A normal part of life is our whole body to degenerate as we get older. Facet joints are in constant motion so degenration of the joints is bound to occur.

Along with getting older and the constant movement of the facet joints, the synovial fluids leak out in the sack that holds the fluids will dry up giving you the symptoms of common arthritis. Just like arthritis in your hands if you crack your knuckles, the fluids that lubricate your joints in the hands will tear the sack that holds the fluid, it will leak out and then you will start to have athritis pain.

If you think of facet syndrome as a normal part of aging there is a good possibility you will not suffer from chronic symtoms. There is a lot of controversy as to the validity of this being an actual syndrome or from other causes. Serious pain associated with facet joint syndrome are rarely diagnosed. It is mainly attributed to the normal wear and tear of our bodies as we get older. There is very little you can do to avoid this from happening, Many people lead a very normal life and with little or no pain due to facet joint syndrome.

Sacroiliitis can be descibed as inflammation of one or both of the joints that connect your pelvis and your lower spine. The sacroiliac joint is a vital part of the human anatomy. In normal conditions of the body movement in these joints is limited, mainly because this is what makes us walk upright.

Some cases of sacroiliitis have been associated from childbirth. While giving birth the ligaments may become torn or inflames. The tearing can lead a greater range of motion than normal in the joints causing extreme pain and degenerative changes. Also during childbirth the body secretes a hormone called relaxin. This allows the ligaments to relax and makes it easier to give childbirth. Many studies have shown that this can be a contributing factor in sacroiliitis. For information on this just look up “relaxin in pregnancy”.

Common symptoms of sacroiliitis are stiffness and pain in the lower back, thigh or buttocks. This most commonly occurs in the morning or while sitting for extended periods of time. Strain to the sacroiliac joints may worsen from walking due to the swinging motion of the hips. Also psoriasis and skin coditions along with diarrhea, and fever are common symptoms. This conditions can be extremely painful and can restrict your range of motion. Diagnosis can sometimes be very difficult and confused with lower back pain. Sacroiliitis is often similar or can be cofused with sciatic pain.

Typical causes of saroiliitis are heavy lifting from not using the proper lifting technique. Some people have been diagnosed with sacroiliitis from slipping in the shower or a simple fall, a tramatic vehicle accident or a sudden impact to the spine, pelvis or lower back. People from all different ages have been diagnosed with sacroiliitis.

Other causes of sacroiliitis can come from infections. Untreated infections of the skin and blood can spread sometimes to the sacroiliac joint that is protected normally by a layer of ligaments and fibrous tissues.

There are many methods of treatment and would probably be best to consult a physician for the proper treatment.
